Small win from the CRTC
Posted on:
The world has not been filled with good news lately, but at least this is one.
The CRTC has declined to destandardize 100/300Mbps for TPIA (Third-Party Internet Access). It is wild that ISPs such as Eastlink think 10Mbps (or even 100/300) is acceptable in the year 2026.
I even had a Eastlink representative visit me two days before Christmas offering me asymmetrical "Fibre", which is 1Gbps down, but only 10Mbps upload. I tried to explain that I need more than just 10Mbps upload speed in this household to function. But I do not think they processed the difference between upload and download speeds and stated the download speed was more than enough for streaming Netflix etc.
Unfortunately, I am with a greater evil (Bell) who are not doing themselves any favors lately with me with the cost price increases. But until TPIAs and suppliers (Bell, Eastlink, etc) start realizing 10Mbps is a joke, I am stuck with Bell.
Glad the smaller companies submitted interventions.
